A poem for Thorsday: It’s Hard

3 May

It's hard to accept that you're not wanted anymore…

It's hard to feel when they don't feel anything for yuou anymore…

It's hard to move on though you see that they have moved on to another…

And you're stuck lying motionless in the gutter with your heart crying out as it is torn asunder….

Poem I just wrote: No Justice No Peace

No Justice No Peace
By Talisha Harrison

When they were captured, sold, and brought over in chains to be auctioned off as property
They cried “No Justice No Peace.”

When they were strange fruit, hanging in the trees
They cried “No Justice No Peace.”

When they were killed by pogroms, death squads, and gas chambers and buried in mass graves,
They cried “No Justice No Peace.”

When their city was flooded and they were stranded and helpless, left to die on rooftops and hospitals
They cried “No Justice No Peace.”

When a boy was gunned down as he walked with skittles in his pocket and ice tea in his hand
They cried “No Justice No Peace.”

When a young woman was beaten to death in her home for wearing a hijab
They cried “No Justice No Peace.”

I’m just a lady who:

Who's smiles on the inside…

Who's gets a case of melancholy every now and then (it occurs more frequently now)…

Who loves music and can't sleep without hearing a few songs…

Who can get by on not much sleep…

Who worries and has fears….

Who wears clothes that she feels and is comfortable in…

Who is an pessimistic optimist…

Who knows she can write but feels discouraged about it…

Who wants to be in love but knows most likely that won't happen and has chosen to accept the reality of it all…

Who wants to travel and see the world…

Who's working on growing her dreads…

Who might take the title of cookie monster from Cookie Monster…

Who loves her dog Buster…

Who loves her family…

Who's overcoming her fear of driving…

Who's living with Grave's Disease…

Who thinks that this thing called life is constantly making fun of her…

Who sometimes wants to sleep and never wake up…

Who doesn't cry about things that most folks do…

Who has a hard time trusting people and when they hurt her they have a long road ahead of them to earn her trust back…

Who wants to get her land and have her own space…

Who loves the color purple (the actual color not the film (though the film was good)) and despises the pink (the actual color not the singer (whom I'm a fan of)…

Who smiles when the rain comes down and the moon is full…

My Pull List 2012

20 Jan

As I begin my journey into mystery  I find a deadpool of zombie criminals craving to devour the punisher of their souls.

Moving on, I end up in the middle of a fight between a teenage mutant ninja turtle who's striking with his bow a Batwing.

Finally, I end up back in Dahomey training amongst the amazons and I meet a real Wonder Woman.

Another experience another new poem

17 Nov

This poem I wrote today came from an experience that I had today (and also from my college, high school and middle school years-ever since I've lived in Florida) this afternoon as I arrived from work.

I'm soo freaking tired of it-it's traumatized me.  Anytime I see a couple of black people-large or small I get extremely anxious and I'll take a different route to avoid them. I'm not worried that they'll physically harm me mind you-it's their words their snickers and laughter that I'm thinking I'm hearing or that I actually hear.

Just because I'm interested in different things that supposedly and stereotypically  that "black people aren't interested in" I get made fun of and I'm tired of it. You don't like who I am f**K off cause I'm not gonna change.

I am me and will always be me.

So here's the poem:

On the way to work you laugh at me because I'm wearing a gothic dress…

You can't understand why I love rock n roll but it's totally fine for everyone to love hip-hop…

You don't get why I enjoy comics and anime but not the Classic….

-Yet-

I've been called a 'nigger' just like you.

The butt of your joke

16 Nov

I am the butt of your joke.

You ask for my number but never call

This must of been soo funny to you…

-HOWEVER-

I figure you're just too immature to speak

to a woman who's older than yourself, so you

CHICKENED OUT…

Now who's the butt of your joke?

Sunday Poems 2

29 May

Free

From you at last

I can live again

You will never imprison me

I would rather die first

II.

If you could see the

chaos that burns

within waiting to

be let out…

III.

Cold, dark, silent

that's how i live

IV.

Wishful thinking

never helps anyone

It only causes more pain

V.

No one said that life

was easy but then again

neither is being dead…

VI.

Sleep is peaceful

while being awake is chaotic

VII.

Rude awakenings bring

new insights while

peaceful ones destroy ideas

VIII.

Learn from your mistakes

they say.

But are mistakes really mistakes?

Or was learning from the mistake in the first place

the mistake?

Sunday Poems

29 May

I. People are like flowers

Some stink

Some smell beautiful but are dangerous

Some are ugly on the outside but have an important role

Some are missing a part of themseleves

While others have a painful sting.

II. Laughter

It opens the mind

Frees the soul

And lets ideas out.

III. He sits outside

waiting for a cab.

It's 39 degrees

but his whole body

is hot burning with purpose.

IV. They speak wanting to be heard

but they are kept quiet.

They kill wanting to die

but they are kept alive.

They get lost not wanting to be found

but they are sought out.

They are blind wanting to see

but they are kept in the dark.

They are deaf wanting to hear

but they are kept in the soundbooth.

They sleep wanting to dream

but they are kept awake
