Okay it’s three weeks until MegaCon…

What do I need to bring to a Con? I’ve never been for two whole days much less a whole day?

Here’s what I’ve got:

Myself-in my outfit/costume the first day and I guess regular clothes the next

Money-but how much? I wanna try and get some comics, an action figure or two,  artwork, and mabye even a shirt.

Snacks –are they even allowed inside if you bring them from home?

Phone and charger

Notepad-I’m a newly member of the press (well I missed the deadline for this one)

Camera

I’m also gonna be on the Womanthology panel-it’s my first and I’m a nervous anyone have any tips? I’m probally not gonna talk much.

Speed dating-yes I’m participating unless something happens between now and then. Anyone have any good questions I could ask the guys?

Last Thursday took an interesting turn and I’m not gonna say a lot of about it but it has to do with a guy and I hope things continue to go well…

Three more weeks till MegaCon! I’m excited. My costume/outfit is ready, and I’ve gotta get a note pad, camera,  snacks, ready to go. I’m looking forward to the panel though I’m a little nervous and I’m also looking forward to the speed dating. I won’t do it if things progress with me and the guy…

Work is going well for the most part, I said goodby to a coworker who’s move on to a much needed full time position at a law firm. There’s gonna be a full time position opening here but I’m not so sure I wanna apply for it. So we’ll see…I like my job and though there are times when it’s stressful, it’s a decent job. ..

I’m almost better. I hav e Graves Disease and I almost died two years ago and I’ve been getting better everyday. I haven’t driven a vehicle in a long time and so on Fridays I take a free refreshers course and I started last week and I hope to get a car soon. It’s not a want it’s a need-with my family’s circumstances I need a car…

For those of you don’t know already I’m attending MegaCon 2012! And I’m going for two out of the three days (one of them I get to go for free)! I’m soo excited! It’s been a few years since I’ve been to a comic convention and now I’m going with a new perspective of it all. When I went to MegaCon the last two times, I went on Sunday (the last day) and I only spent a few hours there.  I didn’t really know what to do or see, I bought comics and manga and plush toy the two times I went. 

This though I’m going as published novice comic book writer-I wrote two stories-one for the Womanthology book  (a four page story art by Kelly Turnbull coming out soon) & the other for the Womanthology Holiday PDF (art by Brenda Kirk).  I’m going to be on the Womanthology panel  with Kate Carelton, Sherri Rose, Rachel Pandich, Barbara Kesel, Jennifer Mercer, and Heather Royston (Saturday February 18^th 1:40pm to 2:30pm Room 221C) which I’m excited about. Though I don’t have a clue as to what I will say-I’m just a novice trying to get my foot well my toes in the door-and well I’m also a little anti-social and have social phobia-I probably won’t  talk much but I still be excited and grateful to be there. I’m also dressing up in my Wonder Woman inspired outfit/costume!

Okay now to the matter at hand: what does speed dating have to do with any of this? Well plenty! There’s a speed dating event taking place at the con two times on two days and I have signed up for one of the sessions.  That’s right this anti-social, socially phobic lady geek with a mix of depression and anxiety is going to try this.  Why? Because I’m curious and it would be nice to have a boyfriend.  

I haven’t been on a date in a few years-because well I’m not really worrying about love, it’ll happen when it happens and it never does then life goes on and so do we…

What do I know about speed dating? Absolutely nothing except what I’ve seen on TV and the movies…and that’s basically what everyone else that I’ve asked knows about it too. Apparently the ladies sit down and the guys shuffle around every couple of minutes or so to talk to each lady…and that’s all I know about it…

For the speed dating at the con it’s going to be three minutes twenty-five times. As to who will be moving every three minutes-whether it’s the guys, or the ladies, the ladies, or both folks I’ll find out when I get there…

Well that’s all I can say about it now….

That’s who I am. I don’t fit in anywhere, I never have and never will and I’m totally fine with it. 

In school, I would talk (when I did talk) to kids from different social clicks -the popular kids, the nerds, etc. I would get made fun of from kids from different clicks too.

Even with folks who I have things in common-being a J.O.C. (Jew of Color), being a writer, a person who enjoys comics, etc.-I still feel as though I don’t belong. I’ve never considered myself a geek-I just loved comics, anime, cartoons, etc. 

I have social phobia, with a little depression and anxiety mixed in. Plus I’m a little anti-social, so maybe that’s why…but who knows…

All I know is I’m am outsider and forever one I’ll be.

Learn to draw-I got an art kit for Hanukkah and I have some books from my job that I checked out (I work at a library) so I’m all set to really start.

Learn how to play the guitar-I got a tuner for Hanukkah I have the guitar so I’m gonna get started on that.

I would like to have a relationship but this isn’t something I’m desperate for to happen but if it does that would be nice.

I wanna start a band that plays rock music and other genres. I love music it’s just this wonderful thing that I can’t live without.  Everyday I’m discovering music and artists that I didn’t know of before.  Everyday I’m revisiting the classic songs that introduced me to this wonderful thing called music. For example, I’ve been introduced to Janelle Monae’.  I remember watching the Grammy’s last year and she performed during a set with Burno Mars and B.o.B.  Her hair is styled in a pompadoure style.  If you haven’t heard her music go to www.janellemonae.com and check it out. Okay now to what I first stated: I want to start a band.

Here are my skills: My first instrument was a recorder then I moved on to play the baritone in 6^th and par t of 7^th grade. I’m beginning to learn the guitar-I want to learn electric and acoustic. I can sing-how well I don’t know. I sing when I lead the Torah service at Shul (synagogue) and when I say the Torah blessings and when I read the Torah. I’ve been told by a few people that I have a good voice and with a little practice it can better but beauty is in the ear of the beholder.
